Maryland Reorganization Reshapes Water and Resources Agencies
Maryland launches a broad agency reorganization effective June 1. The Water Pollution Control Commission becomes the Department of Water Resources, Tidewater Fisheries becomes the Department of Chesapeake Bay Affairs, and Geology Mines and Water Resources becomes the Maryland Geological Survey. The Board of Natural Resources reconstitutes as a coordinating body with 15 members, while the Department of Forests and Parks gains boundary market duties. Paul W. McKee will lead the new Department of Water Resources, which gains planning and water management authority.
