Caribbean whaler defies conservation push on humane hunting
On Beck island Grenada 77 year old Athena Ollivierre defends a whale hunting tradition before a 40 nation International Commission seeking to ease a worldwide ban on commercial whaling. He hunts under a St Vincent and the Grenadines license allowing two humpbacks a year, a practice tied to subsistence needs and cultural heritage in the Caribbean. His family has hunted whales for over a century as he continues to sail his 27 foot wooden boat out to sea.
