Brunswick invites the public to an open house on Saturday June 5 at the newly renovated police station at 20 EA St. Chief Phillip ODonnell says visits can tour the station from 10am to 7pm with light refreshments and aims to show a higher level of efficiency and better service to residents.
Jefferson Brunswick area man Jamie Lee Payne 33 ran into woods after deputy pursuit of a gray Ford Granda with West Virginia plates matching a trespass description. Payne, of Bedford Pennsylvania, was charged with driving while revoked and fleeing and eluding and jailed in lieu of 50 000 bail.
Activist Ronald E. Hampton urged federal prosecutors to monitor police nationwide saying departments resist self policing. He cited minority rights violations, urged civilian review panels, and urged cadet corps to attract service minded recruits, while noting institutional racism and underreporting by black officers.

Hailey a 20 year old Atlantic bottlenose dolphin captured in 1981 in the Gulf of Mexico died after a long battle with hemochromiasis a liver disease not previously reported in marine mammals. Captured in 1981 Hailey joined the National Aquarium in 1990 before opening the Marine Mammal Pavilion. The average wild dolphin life span is 24 years.

A fire caused about 15000 in damage Tuesday evening to a garage attached to a home at US 15 and Biggs Ford Road. Amotoast reported the fire at 7:13 pm. About 40 firefighters limited the blaze to the garage, with the single story home spared. Deputies ruled the fire accidental, starting on an exterior wall in a flower bed and spreading to the roof. a 1990 Chevrolet pickup inside the two-car garage was slightly damaged when the roof fell.
Frederick city officials said Jermaine Jackson will not visit Frederick due to his schedule. The city meeting lunch and news conference have been canceled, according to public information officer Jeanette Klett.
Elizabeth L Feil 43 surrendered after appearing in Glen Burnie on charges of being an accessory after the fact harboring a prison escapee and obstructing. Investigators tie her to helping escapees Byron Smoot and Tezory Lawrence from Maryland Correctional Institute Jessup on May 11, with bloodhound and visitor-log clues. Smoot, Lawrence recaptured in Baltimore two days later. Feil allegedly drove them to a hotel and paid for a room.
A five foot portion of a stolen print of Star Wars The Phantom Menace was found near State Cinema 4 in downtown Menomonie. Police said no suspects had emerged in the burglary which valued the film at about 60000. A resident reported the theft after public interest drew attention to the case and officers recovered the crumpled fragment in a nearby field.
