Senate approves extended controls bill with wage board reform
The Senate Banking Committee gave final approval to a bill extending economic controls beyond June 30 while banning the Wage Stabilization Board from recommending settlements in labor disputes. The proposal replaces the six member tri party Wage Stabilization Board with an all public panel subject to Senate ratification and would extend wage price controls to next March 1 along with rent controls and material allocation through June 30. The AFL criticized the plan warning labor will not participate without a tri party board. The measure also revises the Capehart and Herlong provisions and keeps export controls on fats oils cheese and related goods.
