Sentence Sets Williams Back on Marine Promotion List
Washington May 21 The Marine Corps colonel Alexander F Williams was convicted by a Navy court martial in San Diego on drunkenness charges and lost four numbers on the promotion list. He drops from 18th to 22nd among 25 colonels. Secretary Wilbur approved the findings and sentence, noting the impact on future brigadier general eligibility as the Marine Corps Selection Board meets next month. The proceeding followed Williams being in the Hotel Coronado public rooms under the influence, with cocktails served earlier at his home before the incident. General Butler made the charges, but Secretary Wilbur and General Lejeune declined to comment. The judge advocate general and Lejeune recommended approval.
