Mount Airy plans advance in industrial park and school fencing

Mount Airy officials conditionally approved final plans for Lot Five in Mount Airy Industrial Park West, a 4.5 acre parcel on Parkridge Drive near Md 144, with a proposed 10 to 12 foot access road crossing wetlands to an 8 acre town site. The commission also reviewed Twin Ridge Elementary School landscaping and fencing plans, weighing a taller barrier against safety concerns for a stormwater pond. The Nottingham Village subdivision received approval to build slightly narrower streets than the 32 foot minimum, balancing design aesthetics with parking needs.

Middletown Reviews Annexations Near Coblentz Road

The Middletown planning commission discussed two annexation proposals by Coblentz Farm Limited Partnership and John Routzahn covering 14.2 and 9.5 acres west of Coblentz Road. Staff urged caution on sewer capacity and traffic, noted the projects’ natural fit near a community park and schools, and suggested possible relief from open space dedication with a park fund option. The board also reviewed a yard sale zoning text amendment.

Thurmont to hold taxes at this year's level

Thurmont town commissioners voted to keep the tax rate at 64 cents per $100 of assessed value for fiscal 1992. A 59 cent rate was noted as possible if state funds materialize, but officials cited poor state finances. The budget projects $818,400 revenue against $706,620 expenditures with a 4 percent raise for employees.
