James Brown reinvents image with rock oriented comeback
Providence AP report notes James Brown hires rock manager John Katz to widen appeal. He performs at clubs like Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel to reach white rock fans with hits such as Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag Sex Machine Please Please Please and Get On The Good Foot. The plan aims to soften his militant 1960s image amid a career resurgence after abroad touring and a disco era misstep. Brown’s history includes the Say It Loud I’m Black and I’m Proud anthem and support for Nixon in 1972.
