Eleven guards and at least eight inmates sustained minor injuries during a 30 minute disturbance at Maryland Correctional Institution in Hagerstown. Drowning Victim Body Sought In Potomac River
Washington County sheriff officials say as of 11:30 a.m. the body of Paul T. Fair 26 of Rocky Ridge has not been recovered from the Potomac River near Snyder's Landing where he disappeared during an attempted 209 yard swim after a fishing boat capsized. The search will continue today.

Youth Given Year In Jail Escape
A Frederick youth, Herbert Elwood Garrett aged 20, was sentenced to one year in the Maryland Department of Correction for escaping from Frederick County Jail on February 17. Judge Samuel W. Barrick ordered the sentence to begin after a prior sentence by Magistrate Bennett. Garrett pleaded guilty May 17. sentencing was postponed for a pre sentence investigation. He had earlier been found guilty March 4 of violating probation and given six months in the correctional system. Garrett refused private or court appointed counsel throughout the proceedings.
