Cash contributions to the current Catholic Charity Appeal in St John s Parish and across the Archdiocese of Baltimore near 4000 dollars with total parish and business firm gifts announced Tuesday. Archbishop Keough leads the drive which began May 8 and closes tonight. funds finance an archdiocesan home for the aged two new orphanages and twelve charitable organizations.
State Police halted a poultry theft ring in Carroll County arresting three Hampstead youths James N Simmons Frank C Badger and Charles E Hollie. They detained Charles Richards 16 Martin Alban 18 and George Richards 19 all from Hampstead. Judge James E Boylan waived juvenile jurisdiction over Charles Richards and he was held for Carroll County Criminal Court. Alban bonded at $500 and George Richards remained in custody.
State Police report three youths charged with larceny of about 285 chickens from Carroll county properties in Hampstead Greenmount area over the past two weeks. Chickens were sold in Baltimore the day after each theft. Victims include Arthur A. Garrett of Greenmount and Mrs Edna Harris of Hampstead. Also mention: Camp Derrick softball game with Mountaindale scheduled Thursday at 6:15 p.m.

Weston of the Frederick VA office notes under the G I Bill an unemployed veteran may collect up to 20 dollars weekly for 52 weeks, with earnings over 3 dollars weekly deducted from the maximum. For a self employed veteran the VA guarantees a monthly income of 100 dollars for 10.4 months.
