Thirty one Maryland physicians and dentists owe 3.1 million to the federal government after defaulting on student loans. Valerie Kee of Frederick owes 89193 and John Schader of Frederick owes 16848. HRSA publishes names on the Federal Register and online to pressure repayment. those in default lose eligibility for Medicare and Medicaid. Kee argues high interest makes repayment nearly impossible and hopes a plan can be arranged. Schader declined to comment.

Frederick lawyer Ed Nikirk II dies at 55
Edwin F Nilark II a longtime Frederick worker's compensation and criminal trial lawyer died at Frederick Memorial Hospital at 55 from complications of chronic lymphocytic leukemia. He lived in Frederick all his life and worked until near death, collapsing in his doctor’s office. He left a 21 year marriage to Dana Nikirk and battled leukemia since 1991, undergoing chemotherapy and NIH trials while continuing to attend court and handle cases.
