Frederick County commissioners on Tuesday approved a 121.7 million dollar funding for the school board for fiscal 2000, about 50 percent of the county's total, down from 53 percent this year. The county projects 241.1 million in revenue, up 27.3 million from 1999, with the schools' maintenance of effort and other appeals shaping the final allocation.
County officials and the school board discussed funding for fixing dangerous playgrounds at Waverley Monocacy and Hillcrest elementary schools. Each site would require about 75000 dollars for upgrades, with total estimated cost 755000. Executive director Raymond Bates will draft a concrete plan for the county to consider.
Maryland environment officials cut the allowed total Kjeldahl Nitrogen from 18 to 13 mg per liter, forcing Woodsboro to upgrade its 17 year old sewage plant built in 1982 with 100,000 gallons per day capacity.
