New York artist paints to preserve fading world cultures
New York portrait artist Linda Hoyle Gill travels Africa, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Australia, and Alaska to capture vanishing cultures on canvas. She works with oils and a palette knife, braving snakes, storms, and isolation to depict Masai, Aborigines, Eskimos, and other indigenous groups before they vanish. Her travels have led to museum and embassy displays, and she notes her Naive fearlessness helps her gain access to remote communities.
