Ross Boddy recalls desegregation and salary fights in Sandy Spring
Ross J. Boddy reflects on his years as teaching principal at the Sandy Spring Colored School in the mid-1900s. He recalls scarce supplies, early fires, and janitorial work, the formation of the Montgomery County NAACP chapter after wage disparities, and the 1939-40 settlement that raised black teachers’ pay. He later helped desegregation through study halls, field trips, and community programs, and led the Boddy Community Center since 1974.
