Union warns hiring freeze harms recruiting of teachers
Montgomery County Education Association president Phyllis A Parks Robinson says a school system wide hiring freeze tied to a proposed 20 million cut in the budget will hurt recruitment of the best and brightest educators. Superintendent Paul L Vance says the freeze lasts until council budget action, possibly impairing staffing and class size as the county grows. Council members note nuisance taxes to sunset and unions express mixed views on impact and pay raises.
