Frederick County Board of Education learned the family life program is taught in all county schools and met with enthusiastic reception. Elementary Science Supervisor Roy Okan noted the sixth grade unit on reproduction has been accepted by parent committees at all 23 county elementary schools.
G Hunter Bowers Jr the school board president for the coming year with Dr Harold Schaden as vice president. Past president Chris T Matthews commended the board for an unusually hard year while noting Matthews term expires in 1972. The board reappointed Charles A Price as attorney and Linton and Shafer as auditors with fees based on hours. The program has reached 15 schools so far and will be presented in eight more before June. Parents are very concerned yet positive, teachers view reactions as very good, and students ask good questions.
Officials at Fort Detrick announced a June to August reduction in force of 337 government civilian employees. The action aligns with national policy changes announced by the President on November 25 1969 restricting offensive biological weapons and directing defensive research and stockpile destruction. The August completion date includes relocating 91 personnel and the Threat and Vulnerability Studies units to Dugway Proving Ground.

Two hunting dogs were impounded after attacking and killing three deer near Jefferson at the Richard Boyer farm. Goodloe Byron, a Grace Ham Moravian Handbell concert, slide programs, birding, wildflower displays, fly tying and fishing demos, stream ecology, a folk music program, and an ecology talk by Dr. William G. Meredith.

Fire calls reported include a pole fire on South Carroll Street at 8 00 p m with United responding, a truck fire near Emmitsburg at 5 47 p m with Emmitsburg units, a pole or electrical fire at Tulip Hill Windsor residence at 7 58 p m with Independents and New Market responding. Ambulance calls show Emergency nine and Routine two. Jail population lists 26 males and three females.
John Edward Tibbetts 54 was found guilty of three counts of assault and battery for wounding three Hagerstown youths with a rifle on December 19 outside his restaurant on U S 40 near Haw Bottom Road. The verdict rejected self defense. sentencing to follow a pre sentencing report.
A Titan 3 rocket launched an 1800 pound American spy satellite into near stationary orbit 44,000 miles above Southeast Asia to monitor Soviet and Red Chinese missile tests and provide 30 minute warning of long range attacks. The mission was postponed 24 hours due to technical problems and was kept secret by the Pentagon.
The White's Ferry Recreation Corporation unveils a large new center named Canaltown on 63 acres along the Potomac near Dickenson.
