The board accepted a 443,568 reduction in the proposed 1966 1967 school budget from 9,866,867 to 9,423,299 as county commissioners urged cuts. SAIGON AP The U S 1st Air Cavalry flushed a sizable enemy force after three weeks, claiming 100 Viet Cong killed and 300 to 400 trapped in a valley. The division reported capturing 30 Viet Cong and seizing 268 suspects by nightfall. In air operations, B52s hit a Viet Cong stronghold near the Cambodian border for the fifth day, while Stratofortresses bombed a suspected arms factory northwest of Saigon. North Viet Nam saw renewed air strikes after a monsoon lull. an F105 was shot down 65 miles northeast of Hanoi, the 229th U.S. plane lost over the north. An F4C Phantom ditched off Cam Ranh Bay after fuel exhaustion. both crewmen were rescued. All 21 aboard a CH47 Chinook helicopter were killed when it crashed 110 miles northeast of Saigon, amid jungle. no enemy action was suspected.
