First Woman President Elected to Frederick County Board of Education
Mrs. Mary Condon Hodgson was elected the first woman president of the Frederick County Board of Education with unanimous support. Hallar Best was chosen as vice president. Hodgson, a longtime member since 1963, brings prior service in state roles and local business ties, and will guide the board as a seventh member joins June 1.

State Rules Out Temporary TJ Rest Rooms
The State Health Department rejects portable rest rooms and any use of TJ stadium rest rooms for the National AAU Women's Track Meet. Frederick Hosts Maryland House and Garden Pilgrimage Tour
More than 600 visitors toured nine Frederick County homes and two houses as the Maryland House and Garden Pilgrimage opened at 10 am. Buses from Hagerstown Washington Chambersburg and Gettysburg and two from Baltimore filled the day with tours. County interest was tremendous as tickets and program books were sold at the first home. Police helped direct traffic and lunch for about 250 was served at Visitation Academy.

School board orders temporary rest rooms for track meet
The school board directed Dr. John Carnochan to provide temporary rest room facilities for the track meet. It rejected a $114,253 bid for a concession stand press box and rest rooms at TJ stadium. Mrs. Mary Condon Hodgson said the State Health Department, which ruled out temporary rest rooms last night, did not know the whole story and was concurring with county health officer Dr. Forbes H. Burgess.
