Montgomery Council Holds First Law Making Session
Montgomery County Council opened its first law making session under the home rule charter adopted last November. The meeting in Rockville set procedures, introduced two bills to create tax zones in Sandy Spring and Burtonsville, and announced more bills to come.

Towns Officials Re-elected In Walkersville Emmitsburg
Voters in Walkersville and Emmitsburg chose to retain current town officials for another term. Gilmore C. Trout and Ray B. Zimmerman led Walkersville voters with 116 of 119 ballots. Burgess Thornton W. Rodgers and John Hollinger won in Emmitsburg, each with 116 votes. Two ballots were spoiled and a write-in received one vote. Laytonsville kept council members Gover D. Armstrong Luther Howard W. W. White and treasurer Sammy Riggs for another year. Continuous turnout at Walkersville was 89 votes with Trout 45 Zimmerman 38 and other names splitting the rest.

Station To Remain Open Monrovia rail station kept open
The Maryland Public Service Commission rescinded its prior order to close the Baltimore and Ohio station at Monrovia and ordered the agency to stay open until further notice. Chairman John H. Hessy and Frank Harper signed the order citing public welfare and shipper interests. A hearing had been held April 19 with local residents pressing for continued service. The commission also took no action on discontinuing a Brunswick to Strasburg Va run pending Virginia action.
