Choosing Oat Varieties and Fertility Guidelines

Specialists note Columbia remains a solid old oat variety while newer disease resistant strains like Clinton Benton and Mohawk show strong performance. Oats require fertility with 200 to 500 pounds per acre of starter fertilizer such as 2-12-61 or 3-12-86. If nitrogen is high from manure, apply 200 to 400 pounds of superphosphate with seed.
