Organized Baseball In Court Today
New York March 21 organized baseball must go to court tomorrow to justify why Max Lanier and Fred Martin should not be reinstated immediately after being suspended for jumping to the Mexican League. They seek a temporary injunction claiming baseball is a monopoly violating antitrust laws. A similar hearing for Danny Gardella is planned for Wednesday. Judge Conger indicated a quick ruling within 24 hours after the hearing. The cases include multi million dollar damages claims and challenges to the reserve clause limiting player negotiating rights with other clubs.
