Red Cross names Volunteer of the Year at luncheon
Al Miller, long time safety services chair and CPR instructor since 1948, was named Red Cross Volunteer of the Year at a luncheon at the VFW Country Club attended by about 60. Pat Dean received 50 years of service honors. The chapter faced tight funds after last year’s fires and disasters, yet volunteers pressed on with help from Don Webb and Jim Brachey.

Catastrophic health plan should cover home care
Senator Claude Pepper pressed that catastrophic health insurance must include home health care to aid the elderly and chronically ill. He criticized the Reagan administration for expanding coverage while cutting back on home care benefits, arguing home care saves money and preserves independence. Testimony highlighted denial of home health coverage for a blind diabetic amputee and high costs of in-hospital therapy versus home therapy for respiratory care.
