Westbrook Bridge project set for early summer completion

A morning fire at 903 Mercer Place caused an estimated 2000 to 3000 dollars in damage. Mrs. Rose C. Mattie’s brick ranch home had smoke and heat damage mainly in the living room. Neighbor Wilson Stup alerted authorities when smoke was seen about 7 10 a.m. The fire department responded, with windows cracked by heat noted in several rooms. Wetzel Receives Five Year Suspended Sentence
Leroy Wetzel of this city was given a five year suspended sentence in the House of Correction by Chief Judge Patrick M. Schoauffer in Circuit Court this morning for breaking and entering the Gem Laundry on West Patrick Street. Wetzel had been tried February 27 and sentencing withheld until today after his January 20 arrest while crawling through the laundry window. In a separate notice, Sylvester Mattie, 40, of 903 Mercer Place, was arrested by City Police at 7:15 a.m. for intoxication within corporate limits.
