Former Chamber Head Dies
George C. Slagle, 75, Frederick civic leader and former Frederick Chamber of Commerce manager secretary, died Friday night at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He helped found the Calendar of Events, led statewide chamber efforts, and served on multiple regional and national chambers groups. Surviving are his wife Margaret and five children with eight grandchildren. Services set at 2 p.m. Monday at Mt. Olivet Cemetery funeral home.

Hope Truck Drivers Avoid Friday the 13th Collision
Two local truck drivers escaped charges after a minor Friday afternoon crash on East Second Street when mirrors on both vehicles broke. Gene Autry Winpigler, 27, drove a 1962 GMC westbound while Lawrence Aubrey Jacobs, 31, rode a 1954 Chevrolet toward him. damage was minor, estimated at $3 each, and Officer Charles K. Cashour investigated.

Mother Takes Pity On Dog After Daughter Bitten
A three year old girl, Lisa, suffered severe facial injuries when bitten by a black mongrel dog in Lee Place Friday morning. The child was hospitalized in satisfactory condition after surgery. The dog was picked up by police and taken to a local vet. no owner claimed it yet.
