Maryland House Votes to Open 30 Day Sessions to All Legislation
The Maryland House voted 89 to 13 to amend the constitution so 30 day sessions may consider any legislation, not just finances and emergencies. If Senate approval and governor sign, the change will go to a 1952 referendum. 1952 short session unaffected. A private detectives bill and a pay raise for the chief engineer were also advanced, with Smith expected as the new director.

Support Rates On Dairy Products Are Increased
Washington March 13 Secretary of Agriculture Brannan announced higher price support rates for dairy products to spur milk production. Effective April 1, the national average support prices are $3.60 per 100 pounds for milk used in manufacturing and 67.6 cents per pound for butterfat, up from $3.07 and 60 cents respectively. Market prices now edge above the new supports, but seasonal upturns in production typically drive prices down. The department will buy manufactured dairy products to implement the program.
