Montgomery County pushes tougher hit and run penalties
Montgomery County officials led by County Executive Douglas Duncan and Police Chief Charles Mouse traveled to Annapolis to urge lawmakers to criminalize hit-and-run cases as felonies. They seek tripling red light cameras to 25, plus 35 sites, a pedestrian safety coordinator, data staff, and public campaigns. Senator Christopher Van Hollen Jr and Delegate William Bronrett backed tougher penalties, citing pedestrian fatalities and urging a crackdown on fleeing drivers. Rajiv’s death noted among recent pedestrian injuries as part of the call for safer streets.
