Frederick Community College reports a sharp drop in students needing remedial courses over three years. From 1998 to 2000 the share of entrants required to take remedial math, reading, and writing classes fell, with math remaining highest but easing.
Maryland lawmakers reduced the fiscal 2002 budget by 263.1 million as they advanced a 21.2 billion state spending plan. The House approved a 2 million nursing home aid increase while preserving a self imposed cap, facing GOP calls to boost health programs by 73 million and other areas by 87.6 million.
City officials moved to draft stronger nuisance and noise ordinances aimed at the X Hale controversy. The plan tightens rules on vibrations and sub audible frequencies, applying across the city. Residents cite nightly disturbances from the Jefferson Street nightclub nine years open as a key trigger for the revisions.
Frederick Alderman Donna Kuzemchak seeks input from more than 200 supporters on whether to run for mayor or seek a second term as alderman. She notes risks to her role if she runs, and plans to decide by April or May. Her platform centers on growth, development, and APFO with stronger infrastructure and planning team use.
Jennifer Johnson testified in Frederick County Circuit Court that Andrew Wilmore admitted shooting Eric Lebron on multiple occasions. She described Wilmore’s reaction after Lebron’s death and his remark that Lebron wouldn’t reveal who did it. Johnson related Wilmore’s claim that Lebron refused to empty his pockets before being shot.
