County Dog Fund May Not Cover Damages Says Court Ruling
The Circuit Court of Wicomico County ruled that dog damage claims must be paid from the general fund even if the dog license fund is exhausted. Judge Rex A. Taylor noted exhaustion does not relieve the county from reimbursements for livestock killed by marauding dogs. If the fund depletes, Frederick County may follow suit. The dog license fund, though solvent, has seen about 4,742 dollars collected since May 1, 1954, with 1,077.80 paid in claims since July. Dog Deputy Roy Fisher has collected over 100 stray dogs and moved them to the pound.
