Compulsory School Law May Increase County Schools
The upcoming compulsory attendance law taking effect September 1 may require larger school buildings and more teachers in both white and colored schools. County colored schools show higher attendance this year, with 27 schools averaging 670 pupils, partly due to fears of penalties and favorable weather. School officials, led by Prof. J. W. Bruner and Superintendent Prof. John T. White, anticipate staffing and housing needs, especially in Frederick and Brunswick, as enrollments rise next year.
