Washington March 34 President Wilson plans to meet Wisconsin Senator La Follette to discuss patronage and potential support from Progressive Republicans for tariff action. The White House also plans further talks with other Progressives as part of coordinating Democratic and Progressive positions. John Skelton Williams, of Richmond, named Secretary of the Treasury, with Wooley of Virginia as assistant secretary succeeding Sherman Allen in various Treasury bureaus.
Murt Alexandria March 14. The town of Provencal La was practically wiped out by a cyclone and fifteen other persons were injured. Two churches several mercantile houses and twenty five buildings near demolished. The storm swept everything before it in a path three to five hundred yards wide.

Quick action by two fireboats, multiple tugboats, and twelve engine companies stopped a major fire. The Persian’s afterdecks burned to the hull and she remained stuck in the mud. Estimated losses reached 200000 dollars.
London March 14 Sir Thomas Lipton’s club refused a challenge claiming the offer was fair and criticizing the grounds for non acceptance. The matter concerns the deed of gift and a seventy five foot width noted as a defect. It is understood an American syndicate built a challenger last year and Mr Allom is presently in the United States.
Leroy Wolfe an eighteen year old mule driver was killed at Kingston Coal No 1 shaft when a loaded trip of cars ran over his neck. He had been sliding a rail with one foot on the mule harness spreader and the other foot along the track. his foot caught a rail joint and he was thrown forward landing between the rails as the trip passed.
Washington March 14 President Wilson for the first time granted executive clemency by staying the execution of John B Goodwin of Globe Arizona for sixty days. Representative Johnson of Spartansburg appealed on behalf of Goodwin who was to be hanged today for a homicide committed in an Indian reservation. The stay allows relatives to make an inquiry and appeal.
Two army aviation corps sergeants were fatally injured when two aircraft collided during five-plane maneuvers. The mid air crash happened amid a staged air exercise in Rheims.
