Jug Bridge Collapse Ends Historic Span Debate
A 133 year old Jug Bridge near Monocacy River collapsed after rising waters and strong wind, taking out the 65 foot eastern span as a car crossed. Guards halted traffic, two new replacement spans were begun, and rerouting of through traffic to Baltimore was arranged via Route 26 and Route 240. The old arch bridge had been deemed structurally unsound after prior inspections.
