Mystery Of Crash Sought In Jamaica Bay
The Jamaica Bay search for the American Airlines Boeing 707 crash that killed 93 aboard was hampered by tides and depth as crews recovered parts including tail and wings. Investigators seek the flight recorder to explain why the jet plunged from Idlewild, minutes after takeoff for Los Angeles. Among the dead was W. Alton Jones, and cash and valuables were recovered from the wreckage. Authorities planned tests at Tinker AFB to replicate crash conditions with KC135 tankers to aid the inquiry. A separate Baltimore exhibit will feature four old masters including Monet and Degas.
