Montgomery County workers reject three year contract proposal

In Rockville the Montgomery County Government Employees Organization rejected a three year pact as the contract neared expiry. Firefighters had not responded by Tuesday night. The Fraternal Order of Police would ratify a separate three percent cost of living increase. Union tensions rise over potential standalone local representation and a one year agreement. Officials say no contract exists with either the government employees or the firefighters. Some members hint at autonomy from United Food and Commercial Workers Local 400 after eight years. Teachers backed union in potential fall strike preparations if talks fail.
