Twelve Holstein heifers were killed Sunday evening when struck by lightning while under a tree during an electrical storm. No major power issues were reported as a brief thundershower dropped 0.65 inches of rain, bringing the month to 1.85 inches. Owner Noah Kefauver estimated a 3,500 dollar loss, covered by insurance, as temperatures rose into the 90s with further thundershowers predicted.

Two Teens Arrested in Battery Theft Case
City Police arrested two area youths Saturday afternoon in a grand larceny of auto batteries case. Stephen C. Haines, 18, of Taney Court Apartments, and 17-year-old Frederick Koy, a juvenile delinquent, allegedly stole four batteries worth 140 dollars from a truck at the Pure Truck Stop Friday night. Detective Sgt. Paul W. Mossburg led the arrests. Preliminary hearing set for July 13 at 10 a.m. in Magistrate's Court.

10 Year Prison Term For Theft In Maryland Case
A Laytonsville man Edmond L. Kitts 27 was sentenced to 10 years in the Maryland House of Correction in Circuit Court after a June 3 verdict of guilt for receiving stolen goods in a $2000 burglary of Peoples Drug Store at the Frederick Shopping Center. His brother Jerry Wayne Kitts 23 and Jerry J. Gravely 17 received determinate sentences not to exceed five years in the Maryland Reformatory for Males. The Feb. 9 burglary netted $275 in cash and over 100 merchandise items.
