Mild temperatures and sunny skies dominated Frederick County with a forecast for a very summery day in the low to mid 80s and partly sunny outlook. The Weather Service noted a past high of 84 and a low of 56 with records cited from 1988 and 1943.
Frederick forecast Tonight partly cloudy with lows in the 60s and light south winds. Friday mostly sunny with a 40 percent shower or thunderstorm risk and highs in the 80s. Friday night a chance of showers, lows in the 60s. Saturday to Monday partly sunny with highs near 90 and lows mid 60s to 70. State forecast shows chance of showers or storms far west, highs upper 70s to mid 80s. Extended: weekend showers possible, regional differences noted with similar temperature ranges.

Heavier storms target Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida with afternoon showers in Louisiana and Texas. Rocky Mountain and Pacific states stay cooler with showers in Washington and Oregon. Highs reach 80s to 90s in the East and Plains, 100s in the Southwest. Temperatures across the Lower 48 range from 106 in Lake Anza to 33 in Stanley Idaho.
Investigators recovered a gray 1995 Mitsubishi Galant, linked to a Maryland woman victim, burned in Calhoun County south of Columbia. The 22 year old from Silver Spring remains hospitalized in critical but improving condition after being raped and shot three times in a rural Lexington County area while visiting her boyfriend who reported her missing.

Police charged Charles Herbert Smith a 38 year old Hagerstown man with attempted murder and multiple assault and child abuse counts after his two month old son Thomas C Smith was hospitalized with brain damage and numerous fractures. Doctors found injuries over several weeks and the infant remained in stable condition at the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Federal civil forfeiture seeks $260000 Monrovia residence at 11696 Binary Court linked to an embezzlement scheme. USPS inspector alleges money laundering, mail and bank fraud, and conspiracy involving Peter Wood Anderson and Lewis A Fiore Jr. Marriott connection cited. investigators note 130+ commission checks totaling over $500000 were routed to related addresses and a forged travel agency. Case filed in Frederick County Circuit Court and federal court late May.
Fallston Volunteer Fire Company chief Gary Schwiegerath, 31, was arrested for disorderly conduct June 14 in Ocean City while attending a Maryland volunteer firefighters convention. He faces trial August 12 in Worcester District Court. The fire company will divide duties among three assistants during an internal review.
