Two Baltimore women charged in mall shooting at Montgomery Mall

Yvonne Darnette Hopewell, 30, and Joanne Walters, 49, charged in the Thursday night shooting of a security officer at Hecht Co. in Montgomery Mall. Hopewell held on 250000 bail for assault with intent to murder and related counts. Walters bail set at 50000. Officer shot in left arm. gun recovered from Hopewell’s purse. Both women in custody at Montgomery County Detention Center.

Gaithersburg Police Offer Community Crime Academy

Gaithersburg residents including seniors and youths 16 and older can join a 12 week police academy July 19 to October 4 on Wednesdays 7 to 9 30 pm. The program aims to discuss gang activity on playgrounds and police procedures with eight officers and guest speakers plus a shoot or don t shoot video and opportunities to volunteer at the station.
