Plane Sets Speed Record Between Baltimore and Oklahoma City
A Boeing 707 jet airliner flew from Oklahoma City to Baltimore at an average speed of 630 mph, covering 1,260 miles in just under two hours. The flight demonstrated a new jet age down technique for long and short range service, with Pan American Airways among the first operators. The 707's arrival coincided with a Fairchild F27 jet demonstration and a ceremony delivering the smaller aircraft to West Coast Airlines. 60 passengers included Civil Aeronautics Administrator James T. Pyle aboard.
