Ten Thousand Dollar Barn Fire Destroys Grimes Property
A 30 by 60 foot barn on Donald Grimes's Mt Olive Road farm near Mt Airy burned after midnight Sunday. Fire officials cite spontaneous combustion of wet hay as the cause. Eight fire engines and ambulances from four companies fought the blaze for three hours, saving four nearby buildings. Loss estimated at 35,000 for the barn and 2,000 for equipment. 3,000 bales of hay, oats and barley stored inside were lost. No injuries. animals were in fields.
