Man charged with stabbing in Frederick near grayhound terminal

A 38 year old Charles Edward Graves was arrested after a knifepoint robbery near the Greyhound Bus Terminal in Frederick. Graves faces charges including battery theft possession of controlled dangerous substance assault with intent to rob stabbing with intent to maim and carrying a deadly weapon with intent to injure. The victim Timothy Rayand identified Graves as the assailant when police interviewed him at the scene. Rayand sustained superficial neck and left arm injuries after Graves demanded money and struck him with a knife. Police noted the incident followed by several fire and ambulance reports across Maryland during the same period.

Man charged in murder of Pa teen during senior week

Ocean City Md AP A local man Jermaine Wright 21 was charged with first degree murder in the slaying of Krista Ruggles 16 of Oceanside Pa whose body was found strangled in Whaleyville. Medical examiners say she was dead at least three days. Wright linked to prior sexual assault and held without bond.

Scattered storms sweep Frederick County with varied rainfall

Scattered thunderstorms moved across Frederick County on Wednesday with heavy downpours in some areas while others stayed dry. A 3:30 p.m. shower dropped about a half inch in the north, and a storm north of Frederick city drenched the area at 7:30 p.m., with another shower at 8:45 p.m. Northern Frederick County totals leveled at 1.5 inches in the last 24 hours as a westward low pressure system influences several days of rain and cooler temps. Ground level ozone prompted a code yellow air quality advisory for Baltimore and Washington, with officials urging travel consolidation, reduced idling, and cooling measures such as setting AC to 78 degrees.

Hagerstown boy dies in beach sand tunnel collapse

A 12 year old from Hagerstown named Clinton Hoffman died on a beach in Ocean City after a tunnel he dug with holes collapsed burying him about five feet deep. Two bystanders tried to help but delayed reporting the accident for nearly an hour before firefighters recovered the body.

Child struck by car in school parking lot

A 10-year-old Frederick boy was struck by a car in the Gov. Thomas Johnson High School lot on Wednesday afternoon. He suffered a crushing leg injury and head bruises, was treated at Children's Hospital, then released. Driver Sherri Lynn Gibbons, 32, of Frederick, was not charged.
