County weighs own pension plan to lure workers

A Frederick County consultant told commissioners that a county pension offering employee contributions could attract enough staff to replace the state system. The plan would pay 50 to 66 percent of final salary, with 5 to 6 percent employee contributions, and require a broad majority of workers to switch. The county must notify the state by Jan 1 if it intends to drop the state plan, and a cost comparison study will be conducted.
