EPA links secondhand smoke to child respiratory illness
The EPA reports secondhand tobacco smoke causes 150000 to 300000 serious respiratory illnesses yearly in young children and infants, with 7000 to 15000 hospitalizations. It links ETS exposure to more asthma cases and notes younger children face higher risks while industry critics urge caution. The Lung Association supports the findings while anti-smoking groups urge stricter bans.
