Inmates tend fish at Maryland prison aquaculture program
At Roxbury Correctional Institution a 65 year old barn hosts 500 to 3,500 gallon tanks where inmates raise channel cats tiger muskies and panfish for stocking Maryland streams and ponds. Inmate James Hooper says tending fish teaches responsibility and aims to keep him productive after release. The program saves the state money and supports State Use Industries. Hooper earns a small daily wage while working seven days a week.
