United in Love promotes unity in Thurmont area
A cool rainy Saturday gave way to warmth at the American Legion pavilion as diverse worshippers sang about God's love at the third annual United In Love event. Daryl Davis cited his book and KKK ties while urging dialogue and nonconfrontation to resolve racial issues. Eleven Klan members reportedly resigned under his influence, robes hung in his closet as a symbol of change.

Flags honored at burning ceremony near Frederick
AMVETS Post 2 held a Flag Day ceremony at the AMVETS farm east of Frederick. About 538 flags were honorably retired and burned before a crowd of around 100 as local officials and veterans groups attended. Guest speaker Mark L Hoke, Frederick County Commissioner president and retired Army colonel, traced flag history from wind indicators for archers to Roman and Egyptian signaling, emphasizing the flag's emotional value.

Frederick County commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Key monument burial with a public reveal beside the Francis Scott Key monument in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Teen dies as house fire in Gaithersburg kills youth and injures four
A teenage boy, Stephen Collins, 13, died after a fire at a Grantchester Place home in Gaithersburg. Four other boys, ages 12 to 17, are in critical condition at Children’s Hospital in Washington with burns over 40 percent of their bodies.
