Waiting period for gun buys could extend past November
A senior White House official says the five day waiting period for handgun purchases has saved lives and should be extended beyond its November expiration. Rahm Emanuel favors keeping the wait even with the instant background check. NRA, while backing the instant check, opposes extending the five day period without action by Congress. The FBI may charge states for checks not run locally, with about half the states already performing their own checks.
