Hospital accreditation reviews sharpen focus on patient care
Hospitals nationwide prepare for Joint Commission reviews every three years, including Frederick Memorial. The 1993 FMH score was 84 while Shady Grove Adventist had 92 and Washington County Hospital 76. Critics say the process emphasizes procedure over patient care, with surveys lasting about three days. FMH officials defend the program as one of several quality measures and note ongoing internal reviews.
