Flag Day ceremonies honor retirement of flags in Frederick County
Hundreds of American flags were retired in several Flag Day ceremonies around Frederick County. The largest event, hosted by Frederick AMVETS Post No. 2 at their park east of Frederick, burned 637 flags in the traditional method. Frederick County Commissioners President Mark Hoke, a retired U.S. Army colonel and former Fort Detrick post commander, spoke on the flag’s inspiration and what it represents.

Incense Fire Damages Downtown Frederick Apartments
A Wednesday evening fire at 113A W. Third St in Frederick caused heavy smoke and water damage to a third-floor apartment and minor water damage to first and second floors. Incense burning in a rear bedroom led to curtains on fire. occupants Sarah Gaver and Scott Keninitz were unhurt. Firefighter Robert Hiltner Jr. sustained a second-degree neck burn. Four city fire companies responded to the 8:15 pm incident.
