Grange says farm act opposition not total
Edward F. Holter Middletown farmer and Pomona Grange master told Kiwanians at Hotel Frederick Tuesday that Grange action opposing the Federal farm act does not show disagreement with the whole program. He noted the March 7 resolution urged Congress to eliminate compulsory quotas and base the act on voluntary, constitutional principles. He endorsed many provisions, citing a 25 page soil conservation outline aiming to conserve resources, aid marketing, parity payments, and fair prices for consumers. He explained quotas and penalties under the act and recalled the ancient Egyptian example of the ever normal granary as not a new idea. He was introduced by James H. Harris Jr with J Tyson Lee welcomed to the club.
