Raspberry crop moves to city markets from Keedysville
The raspberry crop in southern Washington County and Western Frederick County began shipping to city markets on Monday. 28 bushels of the black variety, first of the season, were sent from Keedysville to Pittsburgh with reports that the lot brought 12 dollars per bushel in the Pittsburgh market. Carloads are expected daily for the next two to three weeks, mostly to Pittsburgh, with growers optimistic the season will match or exceed last year’s bumper harvest despite lighter berries. One grower noted more acreage than ever before in the southern county.
