Knowland backs larger foreign aid in Senate debate
Senate Republican leader Knowland said the administration has made a strong case for a bigger foreign aid authorization than the House but declined to endorse the exact increase. He argued a sum between 3.8 and 4.9 billion may be justified pending Foreign Relations Committee review amid calls for bipartisan support. Johnson said the administration must present a convincing case, or the Senate will decide what is best for the country.
