Potomac Synod backs civil rights bills and open membership rule
The Potomac Synod of the United Church of Christ urged support for civil rights legislation without weakening amendments and opposed the Becker Amendment to prayer in schools. It also said aid after July 1 will go only to churches with open membership policies, and no aid to new churches lacking such policy. Voting by delegates at Hood College elected Rev Kenneth Bishop as president, who will move to Frederick after summer.

Rev W Merval Weaver will retire after 26 years as pastor of United Presbyterian Church West Second Street, effective January 31 1965. Congregational meeting to elect a committee to seek a successor. Baltimore Presbytery approved dissolution of the pastoral relationship. Weaver, 65 in September, plans to stay in Frederick and seek part time church work. The Weavers bought a home in Monocacy Village. membership grew to about 600.

Ridgeville Referendum on Annexation Set for July Sixth
Mt Airy officials announce July 6 as the second Ridgeville annexation referendum date under Maryland law. The agreement includes extending water mains financed by a 30 000 to 35 000 bond, a 75 hook up charge for Ridgeville residents, and a 25 percent special assessment on water line extensions.

More than 30 Episcopal seminary students visiting clergy and specialists in Christian education will conduct a six day pilot vacation church school at St. Timothy's Episcopal church Franklin Street. Registration for unregistered children is tonight at 7:30 p.m. The school runs daily 9:30 a.m. to noon for ages five to 17, with emphasis on eastern and southern city sections and five area parishes. Director Rev. John Baden of Christ Church Winchester Va leads the Middle Atlantic Parish Training Program based at Claggett Diocesan Center near Buckeystown along with host priest Rev. Robert Grumbine.

Erhard Arrives to Confer With Johnson in Washington
West German chancellor Ludwig Erhard arrived in Washington to discuss German and Berlin issues with President Johnson in light of Moscow’s Soviet East German friendship pact. He declined to comment on the pact without reading the text and said talks would be exploratory with no concrete decisions. Braddock Episcopal Builds New Church Ready By September
Braddock Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Braddock Heights expects to be in their new frame church by September 1. Volunteers and residents have completed about half the work on Maryland Avenue. the 60 by 28 foot building will seat 130 and may later receive brick or stone veneer. Facilities include a basement with a Sunday School room kitchen office and rest rooms.
