County approves zoning change to create 3900 new building lots

Frederick County commissioners approved a zoning amendment allowing farms up to 25 acres to split into three lots and add one more per 50 acres, enabling about 3900 new building sites. The plan clusters lots on less productive ground to protect prime farmland, with broad support from farmers and the Farm Bureau though planning officials had reservations.

Byron to Run for Senate in Fourth District Race

Byron, 32, son of Sixth District Rep. Beverly B. Byron, announced a bid to challenge state Sen. Charles H. Smelser for the éth District Senate seat he has held 20 years. Smelser, 65, seeks re election and faces Byron in the September Democratic primary. Thompson, 58, educator from New Market, entered the race for the Frederick Carroll Boward counties seat.

Solarex Nears Sale Of 79 Acres For Industrial Park

Solarex plans to sell 79 of the 2 acres it bought in 1580 near I-70 and I-270 to Larry Hogan and Mark Vogel. They would redevelop the site off Ma. 18 and Jefferson Street into an industrial park, selling lots to light industrial firms while Solarex keeps 14 acres. The deal, with Amoco as the intermediary, could close by early September.

Boyds Community Wins Ten Year Quarry Battle

ROCKVILLE The Boyds community of 42 residents won a decade long clash after Montgomery County Council denied Rockville Crushed Stone’s bid to build a quarry. Council members Crenca Foster Scull opposed. Potter abstained. Gelman noted past division as supporters cheered the final denial.

Police dogs search woods for missing Gaithersburg girl
